GUIDE: Chairs, tables and floors - is it a battle?

Let’s be honest, floors have it the hardest, as they constantly bear the weight of tables and chairs that just want to slide around. At the same time, it is essential that end caps and pads respect parquet floors and all types of floor coverings - without them, floors would quickly suffer. The real challenge is finding the right combination of leg type, end cap type and floor type that work best together. The first criterion is always the type of floor, since it was there before the pads...

Furniture pads for parquet floors

These floors are the most fragile and often the most expensive, so they deserve excellent protection. The king here is felt. It comes in the form of a self-adhesive felt pad, to nail or to screw, or as a felt-based external end cap (EVF), a square felt-based internal end cap (ECF), or a round one (ERF). There is also a heavy-duty nail-on felt pad (FFI), where the felt disc is overmolded into the plastic base, so there is no risk of it coming loose.

Furniture pads for PVC and linoleum floors

Plastic gliding pads are the most recommended option, but felt also remains a soft and silent solution. There are external end caps as well as felt-based internal end caps suitable for PVC and linoleum floors.

Furniture pads for tiles and marble floors

Plastic remains a very good choice, rubber is quieter, and metal is more resistant.

Furniture pads for carpets

On carpets, nothing beats a steel pad. It glides silently and does not generate static electricity. In addition, it is virtually indestructible in this type of use.

Furniture end caps for rough or demanding floors and outdoor use

Polyethylene end caps, whether external or internal, are the most suitable. External end caps fit all circular legs, solid or hollow. Internal (or insert) end caps fit round, square or rectangular tubular legs thanks to their fins or ribs that hold them firmly in place. They offer good resistance to wear and moisture.
