GUIDE: Measuring your furniture feet correctly
Before buying new end caps for your chair or table legs, make sure to measure them accurately.
By far the most common mistake is confusing the internal and external dimensions of tubes when chair legs are tubular.
The case of round furniture legs
• If the chair leg is solid, for example made of wood or resin, this issue does not arise. In this case, only an external end cap can be used.
The correct measurement is therefore the outer diameter of the leg.
• If the chair leg is hollow or tubular,
With external end caps, the correct measurement is also the outer diameter of the tube. In the case of internal end caps, or insert end caps, the ability of the fins (or ribs) of the end cap to compress during installation must be taken into account. This is why it is necessary to know the wall thickness of the tube.
The correct measurement will therefore be the outer diameter of the leg, while also taking into account the wall thickness of the tube.
The choice between an external end cap or an internal end cap may be based on aesthetics or on a specific use, such as:
• The search for silence and durability, in which case external end caps made of natural rubber are particularly suitable.
• For use on uneven floors, such as gravel slabs, domed internal end caps will be perfectly suitable.

The case of square and rectangular furniture legs
In the current Ajile range, there are no external end caps for chair or table legs with a square or rectangular shape. For finned insert end caps, as with round internal end caps, the correct measurements correspond to the outer dimensions of the tube, as well as the wall thickness.
