Glossary: plastic nut

A nut is a small component used to create a screw/nut system, known as a bolt. This part is screwed onto the threaded section of a screw to secure it and ensure the durability of an assembly.

Different types of nuts

There are several types and shapes of nuts among assembly nuts, the most commonly used being hexagonal nuts.

• Hex nut

The hex nut is the most common type. It is tightened using a wrench whose size corresponds to the distance in millimeters between the two opposite faces. The diameter must match the screw diameter.

• Flanged nut

The flanged nut, also known as a shoulder nut, is a hexagonal nut with an integrated flange. This flange distributes the tightening force over a larger contact surface, reducing movement and improving durability.

• Knurled nut

The knurled nut allows manual tightening and loosening without the use of tools.

• Wing nut

Like the knurled nut, the wing nut can be operated without tools. Its distinctive shape gives it its name, also known as a butterfly nut.

• Cap nut

A cap nut is a closed-end nut. It is closed on one side and threaded on the other. Cap nuts are used to conceal and protect the screw for both safety and aesthetic purposes.

• Hand nut
