PRODUCT USER GUIDE: Screws by use
To help you with the choice of your screws by use, ajile, specialist in plastic hardware, reviews the most common screws and those available for online purchase.
Screw material
For indoor or outdoor use, in dry or humid environments, the material of your screws may vary.
Outdoors and in humid environments, it is preferable to choose stainless steel screws or non-corrosive plastic screws, which are lighter and electrically insulating.
Indoors, steel screws are the most common, although nylon screws can also be used for their practical features: corrosion resistance, ideal for bathrooms and sanitary areas, resistance to chemical agents and electrical insulation, perfectly suited to household appliances.
However, the mechanical and thermal strength of plastic screws is lower, so they are suitable for furniture, electrical installations, plumbing, or model making.
Screw heads and their uses
Countersunk head screws, hexagonal, round, knurled or wing, each screw head is suited to different assemblies. ajile offers screw heads commonly used by electricians, model makers, plumbers and all building professionals.
Countersunk head screws allow complete tightening and total integration into the material. These screws are the most common and are available in plastic with standardized threads from M2 to M10 on our online store for nylon fasteners.
The plastic hex head screws or steel ones allow a higher tightening torque. This is an assembly screw to be used with a wrench.
Round head screws have a flat bearing surface and can be adjusted easily thanks to better grip, especially when using nylon cylindrical head screws, as they do not rust and therefore do not seize.
Finally, for all plastic screws offered on ajile, the drive will be suitable for a flat screwdriver. Manual tightening is sufficient.
